"Take Zionism out of Israel and then Israel will cease to exist." How? Without the West bank Israel has a 70 to 75% Jewish majority. A few hundred Jewish immigrants from France, US. Britain etc. each year doesn't make that much difference to the figures. And religious Jewish birthrates are almost as high as Arab birth rates. Israel doesn't need Zionism to be a Jewish-majority country. It IS a Jewish-majority country. Israel also doesn't need Zionism to maintain contact with overseas Jewish communities. There are such deep ties, those wll always be there. What does Israel need Zionism for? Because, the trouble is, that Israeli Arabs can never be a full part of a Zionist country. And neighbouring Arab countries would inevitably find it easier to accept an Israel that celebrates its Arab as well as its Jewish heritage. You've told me Israel will cease to exist without Zionism. I suspect the opposite may be true. Israel may cease to exist unless it learns to move beyond Zionism.
