What does Israel want? A Palestinian state or not? To retain their status as a democracy (nominally) or not? Do the right wing extremists in the government think the Palestinians are just going to go away? That they will just not matter any more as Israel encroaches more and more onto the land in the West bank? If the Palestinians do not get a state, then very shortly Israel will not be a democracy, as it will have more Palestinians under its control than Israelis with voting rights. This will formally make Israel an apartheid state. The choice seems rather clear, give the Palestinians a state or absorb them into a larger Israeli state. The world will not countenance the status quo for much longer, and don't count on the Palestinians to have their rights denied for much longer either. So which is it? Does Israel want to settle this issue or not? That is Obama's question and that is the world's question. Time to put your cards on the table Bibi (and all Israelis).
