What if it was the other way around? If it was Israeli immigrants in the USA meeting with American candidates for office who can't answer questions in Hebrew with terms like "housing prices"? Most American ambassadors to Israel can't say it, either! Why should congressmen or senators be able to? Professionalism in Israel is, in general, quite rare, but not being able to speak your foreign language isn't really a reason not to vote for someone.
