Israel made a strategic decision that the colonization of the occupied territories is more important than peace. For the past 42 years, it talked about peace, yet it acted relentlessly to entrench the occupation by usurping Palestinian lands, revoking their residency (net effect deporting them), strangling their economy and building settlements at strategic locations that will make the creation of a Palestinian state infeasible. The Palestinian leadership under both Arafat and Abbas drooled over a dangling carrot called a Palestinian state. Arafat realized the carrot was a mirage and it will never materialize, yet Abbas, the delusional leader continues to believe this fairy tail and did everything in his power to comply with the requirements imposed upon him by the so called "road map" to destroy any type of resistance to the occupation including passive resistance while Israel blatantly ignored all its obligations under it. The recent release of the "Palestine Papers" exposed the extent of the outrageous concessions he was willing to undertake. One casualty of these papers is Saeb Erekat who bragged about the assassination of his own people and offering Israel the biggest Jerusalem of their history in return of a promise that will never ever get fulfilled under their leadership. This corrupt leadership needs to beware of a shattering earth quake that hit the Middle East, its tremors will reverberate underneath their feet. Their best bet is to reconcile their differences with their brethren in Gaza and develop a cohesive strategy that will effectively counteract the Israel intransigence both on the local and international level.
