The funny thing about this story is, the Coen brothers ARE Jewish. They are, apparently, not the article author's particular brand of Jewish, even perhaps disconnected from their Jewish roots, but the Jewish community is more all-encompassing that what this article implies, and even includes secular Jewish filmakers. You, the article author, are the one who "doesn't get it"--you and everyone who thinks there is only a single kind of "Jewish" in the world. (And how quick is the Jewish community to claim an equally secular baseball player as one of their own, especially if he makes a gesture such as taking off a major Jewish holiday, even though he plays every Sabbath. But, apparently, this treatment doesn't extend to filmmakers).
