Both Peres' and Clinton's speeches at the award ceremony were emphasizing the need for a leader's ability to change with a changing world and society and look as well as move beyond the status quo. When change is indicated, a dedicated and perspicacious leader should be courageous enough and visionary enough to see that the end is the important goal to work for, and not turn the means to that end into an all-consuming struggle. Clinton's main theme was to maximize the concept of "us" while minimizing the idea of "them", making a society more inclusive of ALL of its citizens. Wished that those words would fall on fertile ground with the people in the position to effect those changes.
