Israel is energized at the thought of a "peace agreement" only because they think Abbas is now so dependent on Israeli support that he will sign away anything and everything that Israel desires. Israel has no aim other than to "legitimize" their decades-old illegal activities; settlements, annexation of East Jerusalem, and a refusal to allow the refugees to return. Once they get that signature (if they get it) then that's all they are interested in, because it will allow them to CLAIM that those activities are now "legal". Isreal will then immediately turn their back on Abbas and the Palestinians, fencing them in and further reducing them into destitution. This current Israeli policy is stupid, doomed to long-term failure, and a guarantee of conflict without end. Just what you expect from a side that "only wants peace", isn't it?
