The Germans have it. Or had it when they still had conscription. Maybe still do even as they phase out conscription. Why not a term of basic military service followed by civilian service in Israel? Everyone should experience boot camp plus some military experience, but some people just aren't cut out for the military. So why not say 12-18 months in the military then 12-18 months in civilian service? In these days when the military is not the ultimate call of Zionism as it once was, this kind of approach would acknowledge the changed reality.
