It's somewhat predictable that this announcement of new housing units in the West Bank are planned. It seems to be a move to placate Habayit Hayehudi and some of the Likud, and perhaps a response to the results of the current survey. The Israel Democracy Institute's survey indicates that the small majority (52%) of the Israeli general public does not support evacuation of settlements, while (44%) supports it. Now this has nothing to do really with supporting building more settlement housing units or the final boundaries between the two-states resolution but it's clearly a contributing element to the contraversy of having settled the West Bank after the 1967 Six Days War.
