She laments that Goldstone never acknowledges that Hamas is a 'totalitarian terror group'. That is a politically subjective description, Cipora. It stems from George Bush and Israel saying so. For others, Hamas are resistance fighters, lawfully fighting the 42-year Israeli occupation of Palestine. No judicial inquiry or criminal court is going to get into semantics about which is which. The salient points for them are simply: a) Hamas is the ruling party in Gaza, and therefore responsible in law for defence of the territory. b) The fighting appears to have been done by Islamic Jihad rather than Hamas, so one has to be careful about who one is charging and the degree to which one controls the actions of the other. c) The resistance fighters committed war crimes by firing rockets into Israel that inflicted civilian casualties. As for 'totalitarian', you may recall that Hamas was democratically elected by the Palestinian people. They cannot therefore also be 'totalitarian'.
