The author misses the point. No one is "celebrating the desecration of the Sabbath" We are celebrating Shabbat, in our own way.(Personally, I am happy to go for a hike or bike ride and to ignore commercial activity most days, including Saturday.) If we were Halachically observant, and accepted all that this implies, then this might be a desecration, but we are not, so it is not. So let's make this simple. I will rejoice that the Dati community celebrates their Shabbat one way and I another. I may even, on occasion join them in a manner that they would consider Shomer Shabbat, and they are welcome to join me, but I won't be offended if they don't.
