Israel will have learned well if from its recent attacks on Palestinians and its neighbors---Cast Lead four years ago, Lebanon 6 years ago, etc., and now Operation Pillar of Defense---to conclude from these experiences that it can no longer oppress millions of Palestinians and continue to act like the proverbial bull in a china shop whenever it senses that the realization of its goal of a greater Israel is threatened. The fact that Hamas was able to continue sending rockets into Israel up to the cease fire irrespective of the tremendous salvos of bombardments over that tiny strip of land by the IDF is telling. Israel was not at war with Gaza; Gaza was being punished by the occupiers. Why? The answer seems to be this: the Palestinians will not lie down and die, and they will resist being dehumanized. In spite of Israel's massive fire power and hasbara machine, the Palestinians have proven that truth and human dignity cannot be destroyed by the sword.
