I was googling Sayeret Matkal the other day out of vague interest and came across a Wikipedia list of their operations. Some amazing, daring operations taking small numbers of Israelis behind enemy lines to carry out pinpoint attacks. Much of it mpressive stuff. Brave, intelligent, effective. Compare Lebanon 2 and Cast Lead. Instead of brave, intelligent, effective pin-point attacks on Israel's enemies, they were cowardly, stupid, ineffective mass assaults on entire populations. If Israel cares about winning back the respect of the international community, and it should, then it needs to go back to the Sayeret Matkal kind of war. Nobody likes a bully who sacrifices the lives of women and kids in order to prevent its own soldiers getting scratched.
