Yael Patir, Israel director of the left-leaning U.S. Jewish body, sat down with Haaretz to talk about Trump, the gap between U.S. and Israeli Jews, and the growing anger at the Israeli peace camp. Though she concedes boycott efforts by some on the left have a negative effect, she rejects calls to keep peace efforts local.01:12 01.05.16 | 2 comments
He is the King Lear of politics. Unfortunately, one of the major differences is that King Lears folly led to the loss of his Kingdom. Carter's folly leads to the loss of lives. As to Netanyhu, I have long not been a fan. But fundamentally his actions are defensive and protective of Israel. The settlement issue, given that Israel has demonstrated a willingness to abandon settlements in exchange for peace is a contrived and unecessary issue. Moreover, pervious freezes on settlement have produced nothing except violence from the Pal side. Israel has no pre-conditions for negotiations, not even the cessation of violence. Strikes me that it is the Pals that are an obstacle to peace and the security and aspirations of their own people.
