They are not violent. This is a civil rights protest movement. This is not a terrorist movement. Their forefathers were suckered into treaties with the British monarchy years ago. Many are supported by the state as an underclass with high rates of alcoholism, drug abuse, suicide, child abuse, prostitution, criminal penitentiaries and related, much blamed by how they were handled. A hunger strike by a leader like Chief Spence asking meet the Governor General (Monarch's representative) and Prime Minister is an important symbol. Haaretz is wrong to mislead its leaders by calling this an intifada. Some Arab groups in Israel could be compared to them. So it is appropriate for Israelis to know about the Canadian First Nations. Maybe Haaretz could have an article comparing the Canadian aboriginals with the Bedouin in the Negev. Maybe the Bedouin could protest their situation more, and in a similar non-violent way. The Canadian police are not shooting at protestors, as Israeli police killed many in 2000 in Um al-Fahm. Canada can be an example for Israel and Palestine. It is important explain this story not sensationalize it. PS Don't elevate Rabble.ca from its outpost as the last bit of Stalinism in Canada. Quoting Rabble.ca is irrelevant to this article.
