The Israeli system of government does not fit the definition of "democracy". This has been the case since the days of Ben Gurion and his Communist comrades who set up this ineffective system. There is no such thing as "write your Congressperson" or "contact your local Member of Parliament" in Israel because there are NO direct representatives of the people in the Knesset - not one. There are only parties. The Knesset is run by parties who do what is best for the Oligarchim and the parties - not for the citizens at large. The English term "accountability" doesn't exist in Israeli Hebrew because the very concept is unknown here! This is the source of the corruption in and ineffectiveness of govt in Israel. Curiously, Netanyahu, with his American background, is in a very good position to lead the way to a better govt and a better Israel with a true, functioning democracy. When people can DIRECTLY ELECT REAL REPRESENTATIVES who will do THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE, instead of the demands of the media and the super-wealthy, then things might start improving. Unless the country completely disappears first...
