... the economic and psychic catastrophe in Israel is ongoing. An inordinately large portion of Israel's budget and time has been devoted to defense since the founding of the state. Israel would otherwise be perhaps the richest, most happy place on earth. Generations of Jews from around the world would have considered aliyah more seriously, and there would be no "demographic" issue. And Iran and other regional bullies would not be continually "making book" by stirring up the region regarding "evil Israel". Peace, even a difficult peace which will require years of making Hamas irrelevant to the Palestinians until it finally fades away as a factor, is the easiest alternative in the long term.
