Since when has Peres asked the organizers to change the rules for him? All thats going to happen is Israel's head of state will not be at the opening ceremony. Does the International Olympic Committee have a law that obligates heads of state to attend the opening ceremony? It might be expected that countries will send their heads of state but its not a law and I imagine Israel will instead send the ambassador instead of Peres. Not quite as high profile but Peres should be commended for the decision not to attend the opening ceremony to avoid desecration of Shabbat.
