I don't agree with everything he said, but he won my respect for "refusing to bow" to the BDS movement which expected him to be a good British liberal and refuse the award along with a blanket condemnation of "Zionist imperialism". Instead, he actually came to Israel to engage in a debate and see both sides of the argument. He's actually visiting Israel, and had a chance to talk to Israelis and develop a more nuanced view than the BDS cowards that sit in their comfy homes sipping lattes, tutting about "that awful Israel" free of the threat of terrorism in their own lands, and who issue one-sided criticism of Israel being completely unaware of the realities of the situation. Ian McEwan, I salute you.
