Both left and right work under a dogma: for the right, that reality is determined by spirit (god or nation), for the left, that reality is determined by history (as they see it) - Comment - Israel News | Haaretz Daily Newspaper

Thus, in the Israeli-Palestinian case, every act is explained by the left as determined by the history (original sin) of the conflict: the Israeli occupation/colonialism/exploitation of the Arab population (some even go back to the Sykes-Picot agreement). Then, any purported counterexample to the dogma would be either rejected as false ('Mer Khamis was actually a mosad agent') or as following directly from the original sin (‘his murder is a direct result of the suspicion Pals feels towards anybody associated with the west/Israel’). The problem is that such simplistic world views are very catchy, especially to easily influenceable people (young and/or insecure) who then stick with it to the rest of their life.
