The lesson of Gaza should be that you don't do stuff unilaterally. Rather you negotiate with a militarily strong partner who can enforce any agreement they make. That is what you did with Egypt and Jordan, and the treaties hold. The idea that the Palestinians must be weak makes them and you susceptible to them being overthrown by somebody stronger and the agreement no being enforceable. The PA is building forces, but is not yet capable. It should be in about 2 years if allowed. That is the West Bank. The Gaza portion will require internal Palestinian talks, without Israeli interference. The Palestinians have to do it their way, not the US way or the Israeli way. The other part of the lesson is that the other state must have real independence, not the fraud of the Disengagement.
