The Jews from the former Soviet Union who came recently to Israel differ from almost all other immigrant groups to Israel in a key point. Under Communism, they went through a process of hardcore Russification, de-Judaization, de-Yiddishization, de-Shtetlization, etc. Sephardic Jews were already more in touch with Judaism and the Hebrew language.
