Bob, I found the execution of Saddam - how it was done, and what he made of it - heartbreaking. The men who executed him did so in such a fashion as to allow him to play the heroic martyr to the end. I think it also drove a last nail in the coffin of the current government. It also showed the US government to be both without real influence in Iraq, and as incompetent. The only "winner" was Saddam. He was a doomed man, but in the end he hurt his enemies, strengthened the will of his friends, and got to be seen going out as a strong and manly figure being lynched by a mob. And that, to me, is heartbreaking.
