Back in the 1960's in our [Orthodox] Beth Tfiloh the cantor often chanted the closing Kaddish to 'swing low sweet chariots', which worked surprisingly well. I discovered many years back that you can sing the zemer 'Tzur Meshelo ' to Beethoven's 'Ode to Joy' and 'Lecha Dodi' to 'Once in Royal David's City' -- although I don't see any Orthodox shul buying into the latter! All of these require slight adjustments.
