"Anyone who examines the decision by the Quartet to boycott the Hamas government cannot but wonder where Israel gets the power to squeeze out more and more decisions that are contrary to the international interest." - G. Levy Gideon, the responsibility for the Quartet's decision lays with the Bush administration. The Dumbyas don't distinguish between "anti civilization" terror and Hamas terror aimed at national liberation. All terrorists are not the same, but once you think of hamas in terms of al-Qaida, there is no way you can deal with them. To maintain the fiction, the Quartet had to invent a "Hamas bypass" mechanism. This will not change in the near future, unlike Levy's prediction. It must be admitted though that the US is much more realistic than Israel. The US saw the need to prevent PA government collapse, Israel didn't. The US saw need for humanitarian aid, Israel took longer. The US saw the need for Karni crossing, Israel doesn't. And Unilateral borders, gewalt!

Israel's angry, bitter left must reclaim the language of hope

We leftists whine and complain, we only talk about how bleak and hopeless life is in Israel. We alienate all those Israelis whose support we need to bring political change.
