"Dana, I think you may not realise that it not so much that most Israelis do not actively oppose annexing Palestinian land but that quite a good many think they have a god given right to do so because God `promised` Israel the land.' (bill) You are right in so far as the large number of those who not only do not oppose but actively support annexation of land. However, I wish we could attribute it all to religious conviction. That at least we could understand. Unfortunately many support settlement and annexation policy for reasons of pure greed (as in " we won the land fair and square in a war. So it's ours"), or are too indifferent to care much. The camp of all of these active AND PASSIVE settlement supporters is probably around 40%. The rest are the believers in so-called "peace" who would rather have all the settlements dismantled in return for some peace and quiet. Alas, those are just as passive as the ones in the other camp - give or take a few. And there's the rub...
