Regrettably, the Palestinians - together with their neighboring Arab brethren - will never accept a Jewish state on that what they consider Arab-Islamic territory. This applies to the Jihadists of Hamas as well as to the only apparently more moderate nationalists of Fatah. The International Law is for them nothing but a tool to weaken Israel and bring it to its dissolution in stages. They attempt now to force Israel to capitulate to their maximalist claims through media propaganda, economical boycott and diplomatic legal pressure, while keeping the option of violent resistance (terrorism) for more favourable times to come. There is nothing Israel can do but to give priority to its best national interests, without succumbing to external pressure by anyone, the Palestinians in the first place. The Palestinian problem will have to be resolved in the neighboring countries, in the same way Israel resolved on its own the problem of the Jewish refugees from Arab lands. In the past, the Jews counted on the help and the good faith of others - and that always ended in tragedy, the last of the series the most terrible. Carlo Steger and the left should lern the right lessons from history and accept the incompatibility between idealism and reality.
