"Now we must also demand that the new leadership put an absolute end to the firing of Qassams on Israel and bring about the release of Alan Johnston and Gilad Shalit. If they do this, Israel and the world should lift the boycott and begin to enable Gaza to live." - G. Levy Demanding an end to Qassams is not effective. Better remove the cause and then you will get what you want. Qassams are fired from Gaza as revenge for Israel killings in the West Bank. The IDF refuses to have a cease fire in the West bank, and continues hunting operations there. Why? Because the IDF can do it there; it has the advantage. What about Gaza? It's on a different planet. I don't see what the problem is with agreeing to a complete cease fire. It will also remove a constantly renewed humiliation to Abbas. A couple of weeks ago there was a shootout in Ramallah when Israeli soldiers disguised as Arabs were detected. The people they tried to arrest escaped. Ramallah is the CAPITAL city of the PA. How must such an operation look to the Palestinians? Abbas just appears ridiculous. Hamas can be counted on to bring about the release of Johnston. They will impose their law and order. And Shalit will be exchanged for Palestinian prisoners. One can cause the price to come down if Israel lifts the siege upon Shalit's release. But don't expect him to be released for free. Shalit was captured as a prisoner of war and will be exchanged as such.
