again the western world is put in an awkward position... on one hand they want the entire world to follow their system of government (democracy), but the problem is that democracy relies on an educated, informed populace... in egypt we have a situation where poverty rates are very high and college rates are pretty low, and most people take the koran as literal truth. if egypt were to have democratic elections today the muslim brotherhood would win them... and the brotherhood's *stated goal* is to re-form the islamic caliphate, from spain to indonesia. definitely not a desirable result, but the alternative is having mubarak stay in power, which is also not a desirable result... no winners here, i'm afraid, just different degrees of losers.
