Ask the average Israeli would they have preferred that the domestic arms industry collapsed which has been essential for the IDFs own needs, employs tens of thousands of Israelis and brings the country an income or would they prefer that we refuse to trade with South Africa because we are against Apartehid what are they going to say? Now I am sure there are great champions of morality like Gideon Levy & Yossi Sarid who will say better to loose jobs in Israel than trade with South Africa because apartheid is morally wrong and we should make a stand refuse to deal with an immoral government but I imagine the vast majority of Israels would say trade with South Africa and leave somebody else to worry about the rights and wrongs of apartheid. Even today we sell weapons to countries that the west will not because we want their money and its one of the reasons Israel has not signed up to various arms control treaties because that ties your hands and takes away trade.
