If Bush wants to have some real achievement for his miserable time in office, he should concentrate on peace between Israel and Syria. It is much easier to accomplish than peace with the Palestinians since all the issues are simpler, much discussed, and solutions have already been found. Even Israel understands this and wants the US to agree to such negotiations. But Bush is too ideological; Syria belongs to the side of "evil". They are allies of Iran and they support terrorists: Hizballah and Palestinian rejectionists. But they only do it in order to get their Golan back. Why not talk to Syria, make peace, bring them back to the Western camp (like Egypt), and get them out of the Iranian camp? They only go for Iran`s friendship because they are threatened by the US. Israel can convince the US that it is a good deal to talk to Syria. Its alliance with Iran is not natural: Secular vs. Fundamentalist; Sunni vs. Shiite; Arab vs. Persian. Removing Syria from Iran will also put an end to military Hizballah. No more arms to them.
