I wish the best for the dottering doyen of Israeli politics. The last of the founding generation still active. I used to think him 'crude' and 'coarse' but by modern standards he is a cultivated gentleman. I have seen aged politicians keep a keen mind and nimble wit about them, and I have seen some turn into drooling old fools, so senile that only the most faithful followers could not see it. So far Mr. Peres has avoided the latter, though I cannot say that he is either keen or nimble anymore. Perhaps he should think about retiring while he is still able.
