From the viewpoint of the invader, when those who were invaded resist, "they don't act out of reason". They see it differently. Resisting those who invaded your country, killed thousands, expelled hundreds of thousands, stole (oops, expropriated) your land, and mistreat those who remained have another set of values. Think Poles in 1943.
