'On Holocaust Remembrance Day, we ought to discuss our ability to uproot the seeds of intolerance, violence, self-destruction and moral deterioration,' says Maj. Gen. Yair Golan.23:41 04.05.16 | 0 comments
I believe that the state of Israel should exist within the pre-1967 lines. I also understand why the Arabs of Palestine attacked the Jews. And when I say I understand, that is not to say that I condone the attacks any more than I condone Jewish attacks against the Arabs. If you look at the history of the Jews and Arabs of pre 1880 Palestine you will see that for the most part they lived in peace. It was not until the launching of the Zionist project and the immigration of thousands of European Jews, that the Arabs saw what was happening. They understood that the Jews planned to take over much of the land and to marginalize, if not deport them. An early Jewish writer Ahad Aham wrote of the early Jewish settlers in Palestine that they "treat the Arabs with hostility and cruelty and trespass unjustly, beat them shamefully without good reason." You use the tired old canard of being a "self hating Jew." How convenient it is to use that term against Jews who dare to criticize Israel.
