Thank you for your comments last night, which I didn't get to read until this morning. I have to counter a bit. Of course nobody believes Hizb.'s rockets to be a real existential threat to Israel on their own. It's together w/what you now have in the Pal. territories, Iran, plus the still completely unstable Iraq (plus imagine whatever else - it's only the right timing & combination that matters) that they become a totally unacceptable reality. I thought this was just plain military ABC. They've already surprised w/new, more sophisicated weaponry, the possibility of chemical warheads being only a few steps from there. The bottom line is being Israel you don't tolerate this kind of military threat in the hands of a rogue group on your northern border. The link to Iran is particularly ominous. If anything the deterrent factor makes sense in this connection. It also makes sense to see Hizb. as a useful troublemaker for Syria, in order to be able to pressure Israel. I see - cont.
