Hello Ben Gurion, - I find your idea that negotiations w/Syria over Golan should precede & would help negotiations w/the Pals interesting. But I have my doubts. This would require of the Syrians to "step out of the Arab fold" plus quite a u-turn reg. the extremist Pal. groups, whose offices they'd have to close down. What makes you think they'd have the courage to do that, in the present climate & now that their stature in the wider Muslim world is on the rise? I recently saw a Syrian spokesman (ambassador to US/UN?) being questioned at length on Hardtalk(BBC), implying Syria would only make peace within a larger settlement, incl. the Pals. This is also the Arab League position. On Hamas, if they were ready to sign the Pris. Doc, why did their milit. wing attack across the border from Gaza & abduct the soldier? We need much clearer signals from Hamas to believe them. Regards, -
