Saleh Al-Naami on 'Hamas versus Al Qaida'in Al Ahram Weekly (july 12-18,2007).The author is from Gaza and makes it clear that Hamas is not going to force anyone to conform to any dress codes(women wearing scarves).Only those who disobey the law will be punished and the law is the Basic Palestinian Law. Question of religious freedom. The head of the Latin Church is in regular contact with Haniyeh. The religious and social extremists are the Al Q affiliated Army of Islam(johnston kidnappers) and Sword of Justice(social mores extremism).Hamas has distanced itself from AlQ and has these two groups under control.Khaled,a question, what is the modus operandi for achieving the One state. In South A. it was the armed struggle. Here Hamas has taken on a social democratic struggle mainly(except for the gaza take over). They ran for elections and won.Given israel's intransigence what do you think their next step would be? And if the Arab Initiative is not a farce then a 2 state solution seems the goal.
