Barak must be delusional. Given the US budget deficit and Israel's unwillingness to seriously negotiate with the Palestinians to stabilize the region, such a request is unlikely to be approved. Ending the conflict with the Palestinians and thus gaining acceptance by the Arab world will provide Israel with greater security than military aid. Israel's time of stonewalling is over. The international community will not relent until an accord is reached. And while all in the Arab world may not be pacified by the signing of an accord, such an agreement will remove an irritant in Israel's relations with other countries and remove the last excuse that Arab regimes use to focus their populations anger outward instead of inward.
