Yael Patir, Israel director of the left-leaning U.S. Jewish body, sat down with Haaretz to talk about Trump, the gap between U.S. and Israeli Jews, and the growing anger at the Israeli peace camp. Though she concedes boycott efforts by some on the left have a negative effect, she rejects calls to keep peace efforts local.01:12 01.05.16 | 4 comments
Normally, the big central American growers like Chiquita pick and ship this variety hard and green and they are ripened in local warehouses using ethylene gas. Sounds like in Israel you are picking them at the wrong time and not yellowing the skins. Advice to shoppers, buy firm green bananas, put them in an airtight bag with one overripe banana which is naturally out-gassing ethylene to hasten the yellowing of the skin to coincide with ripeness. Advice to growers, try some more interesting varieties like Blue Java, Goldfinger, Raja Puri and Viente Cohol to keep buyers taste buds entertained. Don't eat your bananas upside down by breaking off the stem/handle. Pinch the tip and peel back to the stem/handle so your first bite is the sweetest!
