We in the dati leumi camp need to be proud of the moderate and balanced halachic positions that were historically associated with our movement instead of trying to keep up with 'creeping extremism' by embracing every humra in order to prove that we are 'religous enough.' A view that accepts Torah she bal peh and Torah she bichtav is not conservative Judaism. On the other hand, a view that makes women go to the back of the bus, wear burkas, spit and assault everyone (including children) not like them, censor bookstores and break their windows is a Judaism that has allowed itself to be influenced by the Islamic extremism in the modern Middle East rather than the Talmud of our forefathers.
