If we Israelis are honest with ourselves, we'd admit this is bad news for us. What are the alternatives? Instability and fighting in Lebanon will inevitably lead to attacks on Israel - turing Israel into a punching bag is always a part of internal inter-arab politics. A full blown civil war? Worse, it would take Hizbollah 48 hours to defeat all of the other communities and the parts of the Lebanese Army which won't go over to Hizbollah as soon as Nasrallah snaps his fingers. So the only question is, how desperate is Nassralleh and how much freedome of action will Iran give him? Will Iran permit Hizbollah to launch a coup before they've completed the development of their Nuclear weapons? What will the response of the Sunni Muslim world be to a Hizbollah takeover? Will Hizbollah be able to recruit enough turncoats from the leaders of the other Lebananese communitiies to give them any argument that this is more than just a Shiite takeover? Lots of questions, few answers, we'll need to wait and see.
