Israel has never accepted Palestine's "right to exist within secure and defensible borders", and will never recognize such a right, so why demand it of the Palestinians? If recognition is not mutual, then it must never be. Is the US a party to the negotiations, or an honest broker? Clearly US policy is written by AIPAC so the Palestinians must take US positions with a very large pinch of salt.
