    Obama wants the Palestineans and Israelis to pursue peace talks. Abbas refuses because of a non-reason-settlement construction, indicative of another reason. Obama issues a re-committment of the Bush-Sharon letter in return for a freeze of construction. (Don't even ask for the release of Pollard) This American committment is destructive of Abbas' goals and he will therefore not even enter negotiations.Back to square one remaining true to the legacy of Arafat-nyet,nyet, nyet. Furthermore, we are assuming incorrectly that Abbas has a mandate from his people to negotiate.His frequent trips to Arab capitals and the Arab Leagure contribute to create this contrived impression that veryone except Hamas is swallowing. Since the signing of the Egyptian peace treaty, Israel's foreign policy and the consensus of its citizens has been to negotiate while the same cannot be said of the Palestineans.
