I hear you Axel. I guess you and I remember the "Tanker War" of the 1980s and the rest don't. Americans and Israelis tend to be contemptuous because the Iranians have not equipped for force projection. They have not armed for aggressive warfare, which is an essential concept in American and Israeli doctrine. The doctrine of the Iranian armed forces is very practical. Their army is large enough to protect them against any neighbor. If invaded by someone much stronger they intend to conduct asymmetrical warfare such as is being conducted against the US in Iraq. Their navy is equipped to control the littoral waters of Iran, and the Straits of Hormuz. Iran is well equipped with a variety of missile systems which are capable of closing the straits at least temporarily. They are also equipped to destroy - if necessary - oil facilities in all Gulf states. Iran's Kilo boats are almost perfect for operations in the Persian gulf. No cakewalk.
