    It's also pretty obvious that 1) Palestinians who are not involved in violence (i.e., the majority) should not be punished only for the convenience of Israelis, 2) Carter is not anti-Israel and he is particularly not pro-Syrian, but he has a sense of proportion and fairness, 3) Hamas wants weapons for a reason. Their violence has not arisen in a vacuum. If enough Israelis are not able to view the Palestinian viewpoint Israel will go by the wayside. Israel as a state must either adapt to reality and justice or it will not last in it's current form. Carter recognizes that.
