The author ends the article, warning of impending authoritarianism. Many readers will wrongly assume that the Right is the danger, when in fact it is the Left that already is the problem. In which democracies would the PM call in the army to evict children from their legal homes (as Sharon did) in an effort to avoid prosecution for financial crimes? In which democracy would the Supreme Court actually support such a PM? In which democracy can a PM say that he is the PM of only SOME of the citizens (as Rabin did)? In which democracy are politicians who break the law flagrantly and dangerously (as Peres did in Oslo) rewarded with even higher office? In which democracy do failed politicians come back again and again to cause ever more damage? In which democracy does tax law state that people are presumed guilty until proven innocent? In which democracy can the chief justice of the Supreme Court act as dictator-in-chief (as Aharon Barak did) to much criticism from foreign jurists - but applause from the Communist Left? In which democracy do courts stick their noses into religious affairs and imprison parents who dare to send their kids to the religious schools of their choice? Danger of Authoritarianism in Israel? It's already here!
