In 1988 an American warship, USS Vincennes, was operating close off the coast of Iran when they went into a panic and shot down an Iranian airliner. This attack killed all 290 people aboard the airplane, incluuding 66 children. Fear was the primary cause of the poor judgement and mistakes which led to the American attack. Now it is Israels turn to be afraid and we see the same series of poor judgements is well along. Setting aside the question of whether Iran deserves a sneak attack from Israel, as happened recently in Syria, is Israel prepared to cope for a long term shooting war with Iran? I really don't think so. Western nations cannot deal with the casualties from such a war. Iran had over a million people killed in the Iraq war but never wavered. If Israel attacks Iran, Israel will suffer greatly, but it will make interesting news each morning with my cup of tea.
