"The goal, punishing Israel, is in fact punishing those in Israel who are most likely to be striving for peace, much to the joy of those opposed to peace who can point to the asinine nature of the boycott." - Mark L Since I oppose the boycott at this time, I don't want to work too hard on defending some aspect of it. I don't think the academics expected that their boycott would be the end of boycotting. They probably wanted to show the way to many others. In this sense they had a practical goal in mind. Indeed, the NATFHE organization expected to go out of business within days (by merging), so the boycotters knew their own action would not last, but its effects might.
