This concept of equality before the law is anathema to the religious establishment. How could someone who thanks God every morning for not making him a woman (I know the rationalisations of more mitzvahs required of males is an added honour) believe in equality for a woman before the law? How can a womazn divorce an abusive husband? When Levy says the Constitution should be as brief as "Love Thy Neigbour", to whom is he referring as "neigbour"? This is a dilemma zionism has not solved and it stems from the unique position of the Jewish People as a religion and as an ethnos, where religion is an inseperable factor in defining that people as a collective in a nation state. Orthodoxy cannot compromise because it believes it is dealing with eternal principles which are not subject to subjective interpretation. They are covenental. Hence their opposition to a Constitution. There will be no compromise.

This Valentine's day, celebrate not love, but the sublime bond of friendship
