Assad could not defeat Israel on his own. If Assad is ousted the country will take years to to solidify. During those years Israel will watch and make the decision if the new Syrian leadership is to be one of peace or not. Then and only then will there be discussions of a permanent peace and discussions about the Golan. FYI any coalition government can be considered unstable. In Canada we had one for 3 years before it suffered a non confidence vote..... a non cofidence vote that the leader allowed to happen...and one which he won a majority in the following election.
